Face masks or shields covering the mouth and nose are required by the Council, while in the church building. If you do not have a mask, there will be some available for you at the doors. If you have a medical reason that prohibits you from wearing a mask, bring a doctor’s note with you. There are a couple of pews reserved for those who have a medical exemption from wearing masks.
All worshipers not part of the same household will be expected to maintain social distancing measures, which include keeping 6 feet of distance between each household and refraining from physical contact. Pews have been marked off to preserve space between each other.
An usher will be at the entrance of the sanctuary collecting names and phone numbers of worshipers for the purpose of aiding the health department in contact tracing. It is not our plan further spread the virus; however, we want to be prepared.
Cleaning and Sanitizing:
We are taking measures to clean and sanitize high traffic areas of the church prior to worship on Sundays. Hand sanitizer will also be provided at the entrances to the sanctuary. Please sanitize your hands as you enter and exit the sanctuary.
Nursery: The nursery at First Lutheran Church will not be staffed at this time.
Singing has been identified as one of the riskiest behaviors’ churches engage in. As such, we ask that you refrain from congregational singing. If it is possible and safe to do so, a soloist may be arranged to provide some vocal music during worship.
Sharing of Peace:
We will maintain a contactless worship experience. When we share peace with each other, waves and peace signs are preferred over hugs and handshakes.
To assist in your financial stewardship, an offering plate will be located at the entrance to the sanctuary. Please make your gifts on your way in or your way out.
Communion frequency and practice:
Holy Communion will not be offered at this time. However, the Congregation Council will be addressing this to come up with a way to do it safely. Holy Communion continues to be a priority for our church and we want to ensure it is done well and with the safety of the community in mind.
Please refrain from group gatherings prior to and following worship. We understand the importance of fellowship for our life together, and will resume when it is safe to do so.
If you are in a high-risk group for the virus or are uncomfortable gathering together, please stay home and worship with us through Facebook or by listening to 99.1 WIKB.
If you are feeling sick in any way—fever, sore throat, coughing, sneezing, runny nose or just not feeling well—PLEASE STAY HOME.
By worshiping with the community of First Lutheran Church, there is a potential risk of exposure to COVID-19, and any other communicable disease. We are working as hard as possible to provide a safe and clean environment, and yet we also stress that your attendance is voluntary and you assume responsibility should you become ill.
